The San Diego Skates survived an early scare by the Orange County Checkers to win 10-4 on Saturday night. Lucien Perreault and Craig Carlyle led the Skates with three goals each. Christopher Georgics had three goals for the Checkers.
The Checkers bounced back from the previous night’s loss with a quick start in game two of their weekend series with the Skates. Georgios scored at 16:29 and it took ten minutes before the Skates could respond with a goal by Craig Carlyle.
The Checkers regained the lead at 19:06 of the second period on another Georgics goal but the Skates evened faster this time with a goal by Perreault at 18:49. A pair of goals by Perreault plus one by Jon Valenzuela opened the game up for the Skates between the 11 and 8 minute marks. The Checkers rebounded with Georgios’ third goal of the game at 7:44. But the Skates dampened thoughts of a comeback with a goal at 5:20 by Carlyle.
The Skates danced through the third period with a pair of goals by Somers plus solo tallies by Carlyle and Chris Liang. Daniel Sanche closed the scoring for the Checkers at 15:58.
